How strange it is to see my own face and smile staring back at me from these twentyplus year-old photographs. I want to sit down with that baby girl and tell her a thing or two. Mostly that it will all be okay.

- tall, just a little scruffy but still clean, smiley with nice eyes
- understands that cargo shorts are a no-no and owns a well-tailored suit
- intelligent, preferably smarter than I am but with different areas of expertise
- a reader who knows how to spell and is relatively capable of constructing a passable sentence
- funny and self-aware without being too self-conscious, comfortable in a crowd
- intrigued by art and capable of discussing it without stepping too far into pretension, and equally intrigued and capable of discussing pop culture
- non-judgmental of my past and understanding of my home and family
- open to adventure

summer school

What I've learned so far this summer. 1. Life is meant for playing. The hard work should merely interject, rather than the other way around. 2. Malibu will always give me a hangover. Always. 3. Friends and family can never be overrated. 4. I love the Olympics and reality TV, and I am unashamed. 5. Hot weather's great and all, but there does come a breaking point. If I'm ever going to move south, it had better be for the sake of the ocean. 6. Not everyone in this world is a nice person. I will always be surprised when people don't like me, though.
